MIAMI, FL, March 23rd – The NBA announced today that Miami HEAT guard Dwyane Wade was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, March 16 through Sunday, March 22. This marks the 52nd time in franchise history a HEAT player has earned Player of the Week honors and the 17th time Wade has earned the honor in his career.
Wade led the HEAT to a 3-1 record after averaging 24.5 points, 4.0 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 2.25 steals while shooting 53.2 percent from the field. He led the team in points three times and in assists and steals once each. He scored in double-figures in all four games, including two 30-point games. Wade is currently averaging 7.0 points in the fourth quarter this season, the second-highest average in the NBA. He is also shooting 48 percent from the field, and along with point guard Goran Dragic, they are combining to shot 49.3 percent, the highest for a starting backcourt duo in the league.
Wade led off the week scoring a game-high 32 points on 13-of-18 from the field while recording a game-high five steals, helping lead Miami to a, 106-92, win vs. Cleveland on March 16. He then scored 15 fourth quarter points vs. Portland on March 18, including the final eight of the game while his field goal with 13.6 seconds remaining put the HEAT ahead for good as he finished with a team-high 32 points, leading Miami to a, 108-104, victory. On March 18 vs. Denver, Wade secured the HEAT’s third-straight win after scoring a game-high 22 points in a, 108-91, win. He capped the week posting 12 points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals at Oklahoma City on March 22.
