Learn to Swim Recap (2013)

MIAMI - On July 25th, the Miami HEAT teamed up with Florida Blue, Sun Sports and the American Red Cross to surprise summer camp participants with a swimming lesson at the City of Miami’s Gibson Park Pool. Two-time NBA Champion, and Miami native, James Jones, made the visit and helped teach the children about the HEAT’s Learn to Swim community water safety campaign. Providing instructions to the children was HEAT/Sun Sports Courtside Reporter, Jason Jackson, who was joined by SUN Sports Media Relations Manager Eric Esteban, Community Liaison for the City of Miami District 5 Commissioner, Brandyss Howard, Michelle Spence-Jones and representatives from the American Red Cross.

With drowning serving as a leading cause of death for children under the age of five, the Miami HEAT’s Learn to Swim program highlighted the importance of water safety to the event attendees. Entering its 12th year of existence, the goal of the Learn to Swim program has been to prevent these tragedies, with respect to the abundance of bodies of water and residential swimming pools in South Florida.
