ATLANTA -- Atlanta Hawks center Al Horford visited Garden Hills Elementary School on Jan. 20 as a reward to students, faculty and staff for healthy habits the school has adopted.

Horford, a member of the NBA’s FIT Team, spoke to fourth and fifth graders about the benefits of healthy living and participated in line dances with the students.

The visit was done in conjunction with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program. Garden Hills students participated in “Stack Up 2015,” making the Guinness World Book of Records for the most students stacking cups in one day.

ATLANTA -- Al Horford today was named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, Jan. 12 through Sunday, Jan. 18.

In winning the honor for the second time this season and the third time in his career, Horford helped the Hawks to a perfect 4-0 week (road wins over Philadelphia, Boston, Toronto and Chicago), averaging 21.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.3 assists in 30.7 minutes (.844 FG%, .846 FT%) in three games played. He led the NBA in FG% for the week and ranked ninth in assist/turnover ratio (6.33), while finishing seventh in the Eastern Conference in assists and eighth in points per game.

Horford scored over 20 points and shot over .700 from the field in all three of his games played during the week. In the 1/13 contest at Philadelphia, he recorded his first career triple-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high tying 10 assists in 29 minutes (8-10 FGs, 5-6 FTs). According to the Elias Sports Bureau, he became the first NBA player this season to record a triple-double in less than 30 minutes of playing time, and is the first Hawk accomplish the feat since 1983.

He previously won Player of the Week honors this season for games played Dec. 15 through Dec. 21.

Including the 4-0 week, Atlanta has won 12 consecutive games overall (tying the second longest streak in club history) and a franchise-record 12 straight on the road.

Al Horford Named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week

ATLANTA -- Al Horford today was named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, Dec. 15 through Sunday, Dec. 21.

In winning the honor for the second time in his career, Horford led the Hawks to a perfect 3-0 week (road wins over Cleveland and Houston, and a home win over Chicago), averaging 18.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.0 steals in 32.0 minutes (.605 FG%, .750 FT%). He was the only player in the NBA to average at least 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals, and shoot at least .600 FG% for the week. Including the three-game winning streak, Atlanta has won 12-of-13.

In the 12/15 contest against Chicago, he recorded a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds to go along with a season-high six assists and two steals in 33 minutes (10-19 FGs). He followed that up with a 20-point night at Cleveland (10-14 FGs) in 31 minutes and 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three blocks and a steal in 32 minutes at Houston. He set or tied season-highs in assists, defensive rebounds and blocks during the week.

Horford helped Atlanta to lead the NBA in FG% (.528), apg (29.3) and assist/turnover ratio (2.59) last week, while ranking first in the East (second in the NBA) in ppg (108.0). On the season, he ranks 12th in the NBA in FG%, t13th in bpg and t26th in FGM (170) in 29.8 mpg.

ATLANTA -- Atlanta Hawks center Al Horford celebrated the healthy living environment created at Parkside Elementary School by visiting the campus on Thursday, Dec. 11.

Horford, a member of the NBA’s FIT Team, addressed over 400 third, fourth and fifth graders about the importance of eating properly and maintaining a healthy diet. The two-time NBA All-Star also toured school facilities and chatted with kindergartners.

The visit was done in conjunction with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program to celebrate efforts the elementary school has taken to improve the health quality of its students. Parkside won the Alliance’s National Healthy Schools Silver and Bronze Awards for their success in creating a healthier school.
