The Hawaiian Islands and AEG Facilities today announced that the L.A. Clippers will host the Clippers Hawai’i Classic on October 1st and 3rd in Honolulu. The two-game event, which will feature two preseason matchups between the Clippers and the Toronto Raptors, will be held at the Stan Sheriff Center on the campus of the University of Hawai’i.

The Clippers will also participate in a pre-game Fan Fest at the Hawai‘i Convention Center, where visitors to the Aloha State will be welcomed to taste and experience the best Hawai‘i has to offer, as well as meet and interact with the team. The Clippers previously announced that the team would hold its 2017 Training Camp on the campus of the University of Hawai’i.

“We are very excited to be able to host the Clippers Hawai’i Classic in Honolulu,” Clippers President of Business Operations Gillian Zucker said. “With the help of our partner, the Hawai’i Tourism Authority, we look forward to showcasing the beauty of the islands and to bringing Clipper basketball to the people of the great state of Hawai’i.”

This is the first time the Clippers have played a game in Hawai’i. Clippers games are shown throughout Hawai’i on Prime Ticket and sister network FOX Sports West.

The LA Clippers Youth Basketball Summer Camp Series is the talk of SoCal

LOS ANGELES – Sometimes, the most likely scenario at the NBA Draft Lottery comes to fruition.

That’s what happened this week, with Boston getting the top pick after entering the lottery with the best odds to earn it. The top five was rounded out with the Lakers, Sixers, Suns and Kings, respectively.

Luckily for the Clippers, it doesn’t always work that way.

On this date seven years ago, the Clippers won the draft lottery and beat the odds in doing so, using the pick to select superstar forward Blake Griffin.

The Clippers entered the lottery with the third-best chance of earning the top pick, which would inevitably be used on the Oklahoma forward who happened to be the national college player of the year.

They had just a 17.7 percent chance of landing the top pick, but the Clippers defied the odds, and Griffin rewarded the Clippers with 22.5 points and a career-high 12.1 rebounds per game in his first full year in 2010-11 after missing the 2009 season with a knee injury.

Sacramento had the best chance to win the 2009 lottery after winning just 17 games the previous season, but the Kings fell all the way to fourth in the draft following the lottery. Memphis, with the sixth-best chance to earn the top pick, vaulted up to second. Oklahoma City, with the fourth-best odds, jumped to third.

Behind Sacramento at No. 5 was Washington, which initially had the second-best odds for the top pick. The Wizards’ pick would eventually go to the Timberwolves in a trade, giving Minnesota two top-six picks.

Picking seventh ended up not too shabby for Golden State.

The NBA announced today that L.A. Clippers center DeAndre Jordan has been selected to the 2016-17 All-NBA Third Team. This is Jordan’s third straight season making an All-NBA team in his career.

Jordan, who was an All-NBA First Team member last season, finished first in the NBA in field goal percentage (.714), third in rebounds (13.8) and seventh in blocks (1.65), while averaging 12.7 points in 81 games (all starts) in 2016-17. The first-time All-Star shot a career-high 71.4% from the field, the second-highest single-season mark in NBA history (Wilt Chamberlain, 1972-73-72.7%) and led the NBA with 10 games of 20 or more rebounds this season.

In addition to Jordan, the All-NBA Third Team is composed of the Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green, the Washington Wizards’ John Wall, the Chicago Bulls’ Jimmy Butler and the Toronto Raptors’ DeMar DeRozan.

The All-NBA Teams were chosen by a global panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.  The media voted for All-NBA First, Second and Third Teams by position with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis.  Voters were asked to select two guards, two forwards and one center for each team, picking players at the position they play regularly.  Players who received votes at multiple positions were slotted at the position where they received the most votes.

The L.A. Clippers and the NBA Development League today announced that the Clippers have acquired the right to own and operate an NBA D-League team that will begin play in Ontario, Calif. for the 2017-18 season when the league will be called the NBA Gatorade League. The team’s name will be the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario.

The team is named for the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, a federally recognized Tribe located in Palm Springs, Calif. The Tribe owns and operates the Agua Caliente Casino Resorts, which includes the Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage and Spa Resort Casino in downtown Palm Springs. Agua Caliente Resorts is the Clippers’ Presenting Sponsor as well as the team’s Official Tribal Casino partner.

With 31,500 acres of reservation lands that spread across Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage and into the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto mountains, the Tribe also owns Tahquitz and Indian Canyons recreational areas, and two 18-hole championship golf courses.

With today’s announcement, the NBA D-League grows to a record 26 teams for the 2017-18 season, all of which are owned or operated by an NBA club.

“This is another exciting day for the NBA D-League as we add a record 26th team and continue to move closer to our 30-team vision,” said NBA D-League President Malcolm Turner. “Today’s announcement is the latest example of the value NBA teams place on developing young talent on and off the court. I’m thrilled to welcome Steve Ballmer and the Clippers, in partnership with the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, to the NBA D-League family.”

The Clippers’ new D-League affiliate will play its 24 home games at Ontario’s Citizens Business Bank Arena, which is located 40 miles east of Los Angeles. Opened in 2008, Citizens Business Bank Arena is the largest arena in the Inland Empire and is also home to the Ontario Reign AHL ice hockey, concerts and family events.

“This is a great day for the Clippers,” said Clippers President of Basketball Operations and Head Coach Doc Rivers. “Having our own development team in the Inland Empire is another example of the dedication and investment to winning and creating a first-class organization that Steve Ballmer brings to this franchise. We now have a place close to home where our young players and staff members have the ability to develop and gain important experience.”

The NBA D-League recently completed a landmark season, establishing records for unique NBA players assigned with 92 and players on end-of-regular-season NBA rosters having NBA D-League experience with 199 (44% of NBA players).

“We are proud to team-up with the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians to bring highly competitive professional basketball to the Inland Empire,” said Clippers President of Business Operations Gillian Zucker. “This region has already demonstrated enormous passion for the Clippers. Locating our team in Ontario allows us to reward that enthusiasm and continue to build a deep connection with these fans by offering affordable, family fun right in their backyard.”

Two current Clippers have NBA D-League experience. Brice Johnson appeared in six games last season for the Salt Lake City Stars over two assignments with averages of 12.2 points and 6.5 rebounds in 19.3 minutes of action, while Diamond Stone appeared in 13 games with the Stars and Santa Cruz Warriors averaging 16.2 points and 7.0 rebounds in 21.7 minutes of play.
