Doug McDermott named to USA Basketball Men's Select Team

Bulls forward Doug McDermott has been chosen to join 24 other players as part of the 2016 USA Men’s Select Team, USA Basketball announced today. McDermott’s first experience with USA Basketball was in 2011 when he was a part of the U19 World Championship roster, and he has also participated in a National Team Minicamp in 2013 and the Select Team in 2014.

McDermott played in a career-high 81 games for Chicago in 2015-16 with four starts. He averaged 9.4 ppg, 2.4 rpg and shot 45.2 percent from the field in his sophomore season. Additionally, McDermott was second on the team with 110 3-pointers made, and his 3-point field goal percentage of 42.5 was tied with Klay Thompson for fifth in the NBA. He posted his first career 30-point game on Feb. 19 vs. Toronto.

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich will oversee the Select Team and Spurs assistant coach Ime Udoka and Villanova University head coach Jay Wright will serve as assistant coaches.

Members of the USA Select Team will train daily with the USA National Team from July 18-21 (noon - 2 p.m. PDT) at UNLV’s Mendenhall Center. All practices are closed to the public.
