11TH ANNUAL BUCKS BLOOD DRIVE TO TAKE PLACE ON FEB. 23

02/10/2012

The BloodCenter of Wisconsin will join the Milwaukee Bucks in an effort to save lives by hosting the 11th Annual Milwaukee Bucks Blood Drive on Thursday, Feb. 23. The community blood drive will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bradley Center (1001 N. 4th St., Milwaukee). There will be free parking in the city parking structure at 4th and Highland, and free childcare for donors will be provided.

In gratitude to those who are helping to preserve the gift of life, the Bucks are providing all donor applicants a voucher for a pair of Bucks tickets to a future game. The vouchers can be used on Tuesday, Feb. 28 vs. Washington, or Monday, March 5 vs. Philadelphia. Both games tip off at 7 p.m. Donors will also receive a limited edition Blood Drive T-shirt.

Members of the Energee! Dance Team and Bucks mascot Bango will be on hand to meet and greet donors. Bucks rookie forward Jon Leuer can be heard on the local airwaves promoting the event.

Anyone age 16 or older who is in general good health and meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to donate blood. The entire process takes about an hour and all blood types are needed. Donors should bring a photo ID. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 1-877-BE-A-HERO or visit www.bcw.edu.

Last year over 500 people participated, and BloodCenter of Wisconsin hopes for a similar turnout on Feb. 23 to help maintain the blood supply during the critical winter months, when sickness and wintry weather often impede donations. Blood donations will help children and adults in our community who are undergoing surgery or treatments for cancer and other illnesses.

Participating sponsors for the blood drive include the Bradley Center, Levy Restaurants, Palermo’s Pizza, Pepsi Cola, Trattoria di Carlo and Frontier Airlines.
