While the Milwaukee Bucks hope to catch fire on the court this season, the team first worked to prevent fires at homes in Milwaukee. On Friday, October 11th, to close out fire prevention week, Zaza Pachulia, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nate Wolters and Miroslav Raduljica joined Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) Engine 12 in conjunction with Project F.O.C.U.S. (Firefighters Out Creating Urban Safety) to inspect, install and change batteries of smoke detectors for Milwaukee residents. After a brief press conference at Fire Engine 12 the players will be out in the neighborhood knocking on doors.
Now in its 22nd year, Project F.O.C.U.S. sends Milwaukee firefighters door-to-door to check for working smoke detectors and to offer fire safety tips. Firefighters will install free smoke detectors or batteries as needed in each home to provide a critical safety tool.
Additionally, as part of this partnership, the Bucks and MFD conducted a “Poster to Billboard” contest where students drew posters to convey fire safety messages. During the Bucks preseason opener on Oct. 12 vs. Charlotte, Zaza Pachulia, the “Honorary Fire Chief,” will meet and pose for photos at center court with the contest winners. The winning posters will be on display pregame in the East Atrium of BMO Harris Bradley Center.
