Inks deal with New Orleans
Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports that it's a two-way deal, so Gates will presumably spend most of the 2023-24 campaign in the G League. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 14.0 points on 55.4 percent shooting from deep while playing for the G League's Long Island Nets last season.

Questionable for training camp
Alvarado was beginning to ramp up for the start of training camp after he missed the FIBA World Cup due to a lower leg injury he suffered at the end of the 2022-23 season, but he suffered an ankle sprain during a workout. At this point, it is unclear whether Alvarado will be available for training camp or the Pelicans' first preseason game on Oct. 10.

Sidelined for third-place game
Ingram missed back-to-back games to end the tournament, but the illness shouldn't impact his availability for the Pelicans' training camp in October. Despite being relegated to a bench role for Team USA, Ingram is slated to be New Orleans' go-to playmaker in 2023-24, even if Zion Williamson (hamstring) is healthy.
