Matchup History
The history between the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Orleans Pelicans technically dates back to the franchise’s time as the Hornets after relocating from Charlotte in 2002. Since then, the teams have played 45 times in the regular season, and in one six-game playoff series (2003), when the then-Hornets were still a part of the NBA’s Eastern Conference.
The Sixers hold a 23-22 advantage over New Orleans in the regular season, and have a 4-2 postseason record against the Pels, as they advanced in that 2003 first round series to the Eastern Conference Semifinals thanks in part to a 45-point performance from Allen Iverson in the closeout game.
Now when these teams go head-to-head, it’s for marquee matchups featuring the 2023 NBA MVP Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey against Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram of the Pelicans. In the 2023-24 season, the 76ers lost in their first matchup of the season against the Pelicans on November 29. The Pels defeated the 76ers again on March 8. The Sixers were held to 34 points in the first half, but rallied in the end with a 64 point second half, losing by only 8 points.
The 2024-25 season features two matchups between the 76ers and Pelicans. The Sixers host the Pelicans on Friday, January 10 in South Philadelphia. The Sixers travel to New Orleans to face the Pelicans on March 24.
