John Wall Honored As T-Mobile NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month

It was announced today by the National Basketball Association that Wizards rookie point guard John Wall has been named the Eastern Conference T-Mobile Rookie of the Month for the month of January.

Wall led all Eastern Conference rookies in scoring (13.9 ppg), assists (10.5 apg) and double-doubles (10) in January, en route to becoming the first Wizard since Brendan Haywood in December of 2001 to take home Rookie of the Month honors. Wall also became the first rookie in NBA history to have nine or more assists in 10 straight games, and his 168 assists in the month were the most by a rookie since Mark Jackson had 172 assists in 1988.

Wall’s other highlights in January included a go-ahead three-pointer in the final minute of a win against Boston, a career-high 15 assists in a win over Utah, and five games with 13+ assists. Wall’s 10 double-doubles in January also marked the most double-doubles by a rookie guard in the NBA since Mark Jackson had 12 double-doubles in March, 1988.
