GAME NOTES

  • Tonight’s game is the first of two meetings between the Washington Wizards and Oklahoma City Thunder. Oklahoma City won last season’s series, 2-0. The two teams will meet again on March 14th at Verizon Center.
  • Last game...The Wizards were defeated by the Denver Nuggets, 120-109, on January 25th at Verizon Center...Nick Young led all scorers with 26 points on 10-of-19 from the field...Andray Blatche scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds...John Wall recorded his 15th double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 assists.
  • John Wall leads all Eastern Conference rookies in the month of January in scoring (13.8 ppg), assists (10.8 apg) and in double-doubles with eight. Wall has had at least nine or more assists in 12 of 13 games during the month. Wall is also the only Eastern Conference rookie currently averaging a double-double in the month of January.
  • Wall is the first rookie to have eight games of ten or more assists in a calendar month since Brevin Knight (Cavaliers) did it in January of 1998.
  • Wall is the first rookie with eight games of 13 or more assists in a season since Jamaal Tinsley. Tinsley had 10 games of 13 or more assists for the Indiana Pacers during the 2001- 02 season.
  • Wall joins New Orleans’ Chris Paul and Utah’s Deron Williams as the only players who are currently averaging at least 15 points, nine assists and four rebounds this season.
  • Nick Young is averaging 23.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists in his last nine games. Young is averaging 20.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in 20 starts this season.
  • Washington-Oklahoma City connections...Wizards Thunder forward Jeff Green attended Georgetown University and is from Cheverly, MD...Thunder guard/forward Kevin Durant also hails from the Washington, DC metro area…Wizards guard Kirk Hinrich and Thunder guard Thabo Sefolosha were teammates with the Chicago Bulls from 2006-08…Hinrich and Thunder forward/center Nick Collison were teammates at Kansas from 1999-03.
