Monumental Sports & Entertainment Names Groupon Exclusive 'Daily Deal' Provider for Wizards, Capitals, Mystics and Verizon Center

Monumental Sports & Entertainment today announced Groupon as the official and exclusive Daily Deal sponsor of the NBA’s Washington Wizards, NHL’s Washington Capitals, WNBA’s Washington Mystics and Verizon Center. As the official Daily Deal sponsor, Groupon will offer team and arena offers to hundreds of thousands of local Groupon subscribers at https://www.groupon.com. Groupon will also receive signage throughout the interior and exterior of the arena including in-game signage during Capitals, Mystics and Wizards games.

“Groupon is the next generation of great e-commerce companies,” said Dick Patrick, vice chairman and chief operating officer of Monumental Sports & Entertainment. “Signing the first integrated new media deal with them will push us towards becoming a more data-centric, new media company and drive more consumers and merchants into the Groupon network.”

“We’re excited to feature some of the biggest brands in the Monumental Sports & Entertainment portfolio,” said Rob Solomon, president and chief operating officer of Groupon. “As the exclusive Daily Deal provider we’ll offer unbeatable deals on tickets, events, dining and other fun stuff that consumers can’t get anywhere else.”

To date nearly 30 million Groupon offers have been purchased by customers of the e-commerce website.

Instead of providing a compiled list of local sales specials, Groupon’s premise is to cultivate one great deal each day. Subscribers hence discover and explore many different businesses, events and product offerings in their local neighborhoods that otherwise might have been overlooked.

Groupon, launched in November 2008 in Chicago, features a daily deal on the best stuff to do, eat, see and buy in more than 500 markets around the world. Groupon uses collective buying power to offer unbeatable prices and provide a win-win for businesses and consumers, delivering more than 650 daily deals globally.
