Catching Up with Awvee Storey

On July 15, Wizards Alum Awvee Storey attended summer camp at the Northern Virginia Sportsplex. In addition to talking about his basketball experiences, Awvee also discussed the importance of education, the opportunities basketball afforded him (first in him family to graduate from college, chance to play overseas in several different countries) and demonstrated different shooting techniques. The highlights of the day included Awvee hitting a halfcourt shot and the variety of dunks he performed.

Overall, Awvee enjoys participating in camps and is taking his love of the game to a new level; he is currently assisting the Washington Mystics with scouting, player development and workouts. Mystics All-Star, Monique Currie, is out for the season due to a torn ACL. Awvee works out with Monique daily and has seen some tremendous improvement. His goal is to have her ready to play next season. Storey enjoys the womens game and encourages his young daughter to see the Mystics players as role models.

When Awvee is not at Verizon Center he can be found watching baseball. Storey played both basketball and baseball in middle and high school. Storey played left field, catcher, and pitched in smaller Pony Leagues as a youth. When asked about his favorite teams, Storey said, Im a White Sox guy, Im a Chicago guy, but I dont do the Cubs. The Nationals have also been a team that I have been watching since I live here.
