Postgame Quotes - November 9, 2014

DETROIT PISTONS HEAD COACH STAN VAN GUNDY:  (On team’s loss): “Look at the shots we missed in the paint, it’s not just the perimeter shots, obviously we didn’t shoot the ball well from three tonight. The game was winnable. We gave up 19 fast-break points, inexcusable. If you’re going to do that you’re usually going to lose. Down the stretch there was no execution coming out of timeouts. If you can’t run a play coming out of a timeout you deserve to lose.”

(On Gordon Hayward): “He scored, I think, their last 11. He made some tough shots but a couple of times we broke down and didn’t do what we were supposed to do. You can’t win like that.”

DETROIT PISTONS FORWARD JOSH SMITH:  (On possibility of entering upcoming four-game road trip on a three-game winning streak): It would have (been nice), that's why it hurts so much more.  We understand who our opponents are coming up and we have to be able to try and get a split. Split the road trip if possible, if not win more than we lose.  We're playing some good teams. We have a hard-playing Chicago team tomorrow and we have to be able to prepare for them now."

(On team shooting 30% in the fourth quarter): “We got a little stagnant, but we have to keep remembering what got us there no matter who's out there on the floor."

UTAH JAZZ HEAD COACH QUIN SNYDER:  (On Gordon Hayward and 11 straight points): "I think that was a significant thing. (Gordon Hayward) didn't come out of the game. He played the first three quarters. It shows a lot that you can have an average game and then show up when it counts. That's one of the strengths of our team. Collectively I think these guys have a lot of pride and we're starting to get some stops. We needed some juice on defense and we needed rebounding. They started rebounding near the end. It's overwhelming when you play pretty well.

(On Brandon Jennings): "(Brandon Jennings) gets it going there's a not a lot you can do. He makes a lot of tough shots and he's a really good player. Toward the end of the game we took the challenge to guard him."

(On playing road games): "I think as much as anything we've got to handle them the right way and see if we can build on it. The way it happened I think it was significant. We played well early and we had a tough stretch and we were able to hang in there and kind of grind away."

UTAH JAZZ FORWARD TREVOR BOOKER: (On performance versus Pistons): "We’re feeling pretty confident. We've got some things to work on. But as the season goes on I expect us to get stronger. It's great to start the road trip with a win. It helps us with confidence going into other games."

UTAH JAZZ GUARD TREY BURKE: (On game): "We won so it's a great night for us all. We just have to continue to grind. We're getting better each and every day. We're getting more experience. Our chemistry is getting better and better so we just have to continue to work.

(On playing in Michigan): “I've got a lot of fans out there. A lot of family was able to come out tonight so it was good to leave out on a win.”
