Postgame Quotes - March 28, 2014

(On the game): “Of course after the first probably 18 minutes, I was very disappointed. Came out; normal first quarter. Took a pretty good shot from them but kept playing. I thought the first four to six minutes of the second quarter, we played like we practiced. From that point on, they punched us in the mouth and we never got back up. They changed the game with their energy to end the half and we didn’t have any energy in the second half.”

(On the Miami bench): “They play hard no matter who they play, no matter who they dress, no matter who they put in the game. Their second unit had some separation and when they brought their group back in to end the second quarter, they had huge separation. The game went from a one, two-point game to a six-point game and then a 15-point game at the half. You can’t do that against a quality team like this; not to come out with any energy and play the way we’re capable in the second half. It’s mindboggling to me because we haven’t done that. I told our guys for whatever games I’ve coached, 20-plus games, I thought every single night other than a stretch here or there, but every team has a stretch here or there, we laid it on the line. Tonight we didn’t lay it on the line and to me that’s embarrassing.”

(On the loss): “We have to be able to try and compete for 48 minutes. It’s just disheartening that we had a really good crowd out there and we really couldn’t compete better than we did.”

(On playing Philadelphia next): “We have to put it away right now, we have to focus on Philadelphia. We know that they’re struggling so we have to be able to try and go in there and not be that team to end the streak.”

(On Game): "It was a good win on the road particularly for other guys to step up. We have been talking about this for a while. No excuses. Each year is different. It is not about the different lineups. It is not about injuries. It is not about who is in or who is out. This league is about taking on all obstacles from all opponents."

(On Udonis Haslem): "His impact is so much more whether he is making jump shots or shooting jump shots or getting offensive rebounds. It is all of those toughness and intangible gritty-type plays that he makes but when you need him to he has proven time and time again that the corner jump shot is as reliable as anything."

(On playing against teams under .500): "What we liked about it was that it could have been a lot of excuses but we wanted to have a collective response from the other night. Yesterday was about learning from that loss and today was about moving on and trying to get a road win. We did it in the fashion that we wanted."

(On game): "We were able to control the tempo tonight and they had to adjust to us. We got shots the whole night and we were able to have an advantage on the boards. That was key for us tonight."

(On triple-double): "It's been very elusive this season. It's always great to get one. They told me I needed one more rebound and I was able to get that, so it felt great."

(On individual play): "At the end of the day I'm a shooter, that's my job. Regardless of when I play, my teammates rely on me to space the court, bring energy, and make shots."

(On game): "It's always fun to be out there playing. It's gratifying to make some shots, but it's more gratifying that with some guys down, I was able to come in and help the team."
