Bell Biv Devoe To Perform April 17 vs. Cleveland; Salt-N-Pepa To Perform April 26 vs. Philadelphia
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The Detroit Pistons announced today that platinum recording hip-hop artists Bell Biv Devoe and Grammy Award winners Salt-N-Pepa will perform during halftime of Detroit Pistons games versus the Cleveland Cavaliers (Tuesday, April 17) and Philadelphia 76ers (Thursday, April 26), respectively.
“Bell Biv Devoe and Salt-N-Pepa are two award winning musical performance groups that we are pleased to add to our season-long halftime concert series,” said Harlan Hendrickson, Vice President of Marketing for Palace Sports & Entertainment and the Pistons. “We look forward to their performances and know they will add excitement above and beyond the great basketball that is being played on the floor.”
Bell Biv Devoe members Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins and Ronnie Devoe, released their first album Poison in the early 1990’s combining hip-hop, funk, soul and pop music. Poison reached number one on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and its title track, along with its second single, “Do Me”, both reached number three on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart. The platinum album sold over three million copies and produced other significant hits which included “B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)” and “She’s Dope”.
Salt-N-Pepa members Cheryl James and Sandy Denton (“Salt” and “Pepa��, respectively), and Deidre “Dee Dee” Roper (DJ Spinderella) have been making hits since 1986 when their single “Push It” became a national hit and was nominated for a Grammy. It also pushed their first album, Hot, Cool & Vicious, to Platinum album status. Their next album release, A Salt with a Deadly Pepa, sold 800,000 copies worldwide and the group’s third release, Black’s Magic, sold 1.6 million copies worldwide with hits “Do You Want Me” and “Let’s Talk About Sex.” Their fourth studio album, Very Necessary, was released in 1993, sold seven million albums worldwide and featured the hit song “Shoop” which reached #4 in the US and “Whatta Man” featuring En Vogue, which reached #3 on the US charts. The trio won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance in 1995 for the single “None Of Your Business,” making them the first female rap Grammy winners.
