Pelicans-Pacers Postgame Quotes 10-4-16

Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry:

On tonight’s game:
"I thought that obviously we have to do a better job in transition defense as we talked about earlier. That being said though, you can’t turn the ball over. Where you give up 16 points; 14 turnovers that lead to 16 points. Most of your turnovers are live ball turnovers where they’ll go down and score. So we have to get better at that. But there were so moments where I thought we did a good job when Buddy (Hield) came in the game. He let the game come to him. We got to do a better job of rebounding obviously. They had 16 offensive rebounds and 20 second chance points. That’s just too wide of a gap there. We have some work to do, but I think Terrence (Jones) had is moments. Obviously I mentioned that Buddy (Hield) had his moments. AD is (Anthony Davis) still working himself in. We got to a better job defensively. That was our Achilles heel last year."

On the point guards who run the offensive:
"I think they try to do what we ask them to do. So that’s a real positive thing right there. It’s a work in progress. Everything we do is a work in progress. So we just got to continue to get some work done in China. We’ll play a couple more games there and kind of judge where we are and make adjustments accordingly."

On what kind of work will be getting done in China:
"We talked to our guys. It’s a working trip. We play two games and we’ll have a bunch of practices. We have to get things done, because when we come back, we basically have 10 days before the season will start. They understand that. The one thing about this group is that they work hard. They want to get better. They want to try to piece everything together, and we are working to get to that point."

Pelicans Guard Tim Frazier:

On the great ball movement in Shreveport versus the lack of ball movement in tonight’s game:
"I think we were able to move to ball some. We missed some shots. Sometimes [the opponent] can dictate things on both ends. This is what pre-season is for. We have to chill and get that stuff out of here so when the season comes we will be able to make shots and even when we don’t make shots, we can get back in transition and defensive rebound."

On things to improve on before heading on the trip:
"The two biggest things from tonight is offensive rebounding and getting back in transition."
