Pelicans vs. Nuggets: Postgame Quotes 11/21/14

Pelicans Head Coach Monty Williams

On getting back on track:
“We should because we don’t want this anymore. Our guys know that at halftime we weren’t rolling, at
the end of the game we felt the same way. We had an identity, we stray away from that, you get this
result.”

On Nuggets winning 50/50 ball situations:
“They got almost every ball tonight. They were quicker to the ball. I can’t say they wanted it more, I
know we wanted it, we just didn’t come up with it.”

On the play tonight:
“I just didn’t think we ran with pace tonight. We were slow to get the ball down the floor, we were
getting into late clock situations. That’s always a bad sign for us, when we get shots up with five seconds on the clock, four seconds on the clock. I just think we didn’t play with great pace.”

Pelicans Forward Ryan Anderson:

On the start and finish tonight:
“We just didn’t execute well after that. That’s the kind of start we want, but we just had a tough time
executing. That’s a high energy team, they controlled the tempo after that. After we had a timeout call
in the first quarter, we kind of struggled to get things going. Yeah we just didn’t execute like I said, we can do a lot better than that. ”

On if they had the energy to match the Nuggets:
“I think so, you miss shots, when you don’t get organized and get setup in the right place on the
offensive end, it’s kind of a downer at certain points. Like I said it’s an execution thing, I think we had a lot of energy to start the game, I think we started the game off great, just didn’t follow through. They kind of controlled the tempo.”

Pelicans Forward Anthony Davis:

On growth as a leader:
“I just have to be vocal, try to never get down on whether I’m playing bad or good, or if the team is playing bad or good. I’m always a leader that guys can look up to. Even though we got killed tonight, I was still vocal. I’ve grown in that area but there’s still a lot of growing I can do, leadership wise.”

On overcoming a tough loss:
“We just have to move on. You’re going to have games like this, its 82 games. We just have to keep
fighting, keep battling and get ready for tomorrow against a tough Utah team. We have to go out there
and try to split the road trip.”

On losing a lot of the 50/50 balls:
“I think they got all of the 50/50 balls honestly. They turned them in to a layup, a dunk or a three or
something good for them. We just have to play with more hustle, diving on the floor for balls and
making sure we come up with some of them.”
