Pelicans players model brand-new red uniforms

When Jimmer Fredette spots up beyond the Smoothie King Center three-point arc during New Orleans’ Oct. 28 regular season opener vs. Orlando, his teammates will have no excuse for not easily locating the excellent shooter (40.1 career percentage on treys). That’s because Fredette and the other dozen Pelicans players will be wearing their brand-new red uniforms against the Magic. The background color is particularly vivid, complemented by the team’s primary colors of navy blue and gold.

“I hope it’ll stick out, so it will be easy to find everybody,” a smiling Fredette said Tuesday, at the official unveiling of the new threads. “I think they’re great. They look awesome. I know they haven’t had this (color) in the past, so it’s a nice, new fresh uniform that we can bring to the fans. I know the players are excited about it. They look good and feel good.”

“They’re unique,” said fellow Pelicans guard Eric Gordon of the uniforms. “It’s going to be a good start to the year, once we use them in the first game.”

New Orleans will wear the uniforms a total of four times during the 2014-15 regular season, all at home. The other dates are Dec. 16, Dec. 20 and April 15. The latter date is the 82nd and final game of ’14-15, which is also the team’s fan appreciation night.

“It’s something new to get this year going,” All-Star forward Anthony Davis said. “We’re going to wear them opening night. Not just us, but it’s going to give our fans even more reason to come support us. I definitely love the jerseys.”

Gordon and Pelicans guard Austin Rivers also had their own specific reasons for taking a liking to the red uniforms.

“For some reason, I think red makes you look faster,” Gordon said. “There’s something unique about it.”

“My favorite color is red,” Rivers said. “I love it.”
