Pelicans Host Series of Events as a part of NBA FIT Live
Healthy Week

NEW ORLEANS – As a part of NBA FIT Live Healthy Week and led by NBA FIT Team member Ryan Anderson, the New Orleans Pelicans will host several events to encourage fans to live a healthy and active life.

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, the team will host one of its Pelicans Junior Training Camp sessions presented by Ochsner Health System, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana and the Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco Free Living at Visitation of our Lady School for seven to 12-year-old students.

At the team’s contest against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, Jan. 8, Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s Fit NOLA will be on the concourse beginning at 5:30 p.m. encouraging fans to be healthy and fit.

On Thursday, Jan. 9, members of the Pelicans Dance Team will join Yoga Power Play to host a yoga session for students at Lawrence Crocker Elementary School from 12:30-1:30 p.m.

NBA FIT Live Healthy Week will be capped off on Friday, Jan. 10 when the Pelicans host the Dallas Mavericks as a part of Ochsner’s Health and Fitness Night. The first 5,000 kids 13 and under to arrive at Friday’s game will receive a Pelicans Jump Rope courtesy of Ochsner Health & Fitness. Representatives from Ochsner Health & Fitness and Fit NOLA will also host locations on the 100 level concourse will they will distribute information about living an active and healthy life.

Throughout the week, the entire NBA family – led by the NBA FIT Team – will join celebrity chefs, community members and partners to highlight the importance of healthy living through three simple pillars: be active, eat healthy and play together.

The 2014 NBA FIT Team includes Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), Tyson Chandler (New York Knicks), Al Horford (Atlanta Hawks), Anderson, Brandon Bass (Boston Celtics), Wes Matthews (Portland Trail Blazers), Otto Porter (Washington Wizards), Greivis Vazquez (Toronto Raptors) and WNBA players Tamika Catchings, Nneka Ogwumike and Cappie Pondexter. Through events and social media, the team will encourage fans to live a healthy lifestyle. NBA and NBA Development League players will wear special oncourt attire throughout the week, including red adidas NBA FIT shooting shirts and blue headbands and wristbands. The adidas shooting shirts will be available at NBAStore.com and the NBA Store Fifth Avenue in New York City. At the NBA D-League Showcase in Reno, Nev., players will host an NBA FIT Clinic for 85 local youths on Jan. 7.

Rolling out during the week, the NBA’s new “It Takes a Team to get FIT” spot featuring NBA FIT team member Stephen Curry will run on broadcast and digital/social media. Fans are encouraged to log on to NBA.com/NBAFIT to get fitness tips from NBA players and trainers, view player workout videos and check out healthy recipes from celebrity chefs and personalities Rachael Ray, Mario Batali, Marc Forgione, Dale Talde, Roblé Ali, Bill Telepan, Candice Kumai and Ali Maffucci.

As part of NBA FIT Live Healthy Week, the NBA will engage fans on Facebook and Twitter with the NBA FIT Challenge, encouraging schools and students to sign up for First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Active Schools program. Schools can learn more about the program and sign up to enter the challenge to win great NBA FIT prizes at www.letsmoveschools.org. All registered schools will be eligible to win NBA FIT prizes.
