Anthony Davis status among series of positives for Pelicans on health front

SALT LAKE CITY – After leaving Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers with a knee injury, there was obvious concern about Anthony Davis’ playing status, but the two-time All-Star power forward isn’t even going to miss a game due to the injury, a right knee contusion. Alvin Gentry said during pregame Saturday that Davis “seems to be fine” and will play tonight against the Utah Jazz (8 p.m. Central, Fox Sports New Orleans, WRNO 99.5 FM).

As it turns out, that was just one of several encouraging pieces of news from Gentry’s meeting with the media. The first-year Pelicans head coach added that since he only logged 13 minutes Friday at the Clippers, point guard Jrue Holiday will be available Saturday in a back-to-back for the first time in 2015-16. “The game was a little bit out of hand,” Gentry said of the Clippers defeat, “so we didn’t want to use all of his minutes. He’ll be able to play 15 minutes for us tonight.”

Also, even though Tyreke Evans had hoped to play on this three-game road trip but now will not do so, Gentry said Evans and Norris Cole might make their season debuts Tuesday at home vs. Memphis.

“There’s a very good chance that both of those guys will be ready Tuesday,” Gentry said of Evans and Cole. “Which obviously gives us a lot more depth and puts players back in their normal roles that we saw for them at the start of the season.”
