New Orleans frontcourt reserve Lou Amundson is technically a “new” player for the team, signing a free-agent contract with the Pelicans in mid-November. However, Amundson is already somewhat familiar to local fans and the city, after playing for New Orleans during the second half of the 2012-13 regular season. Here’s more from Amundson about his interests away from basketball:

Best moment as an athlete: “Playing in the Western Conference finals with Phoenix in 2010 against the Lakers.” How he chose his uniform number of 17: “It’s a prime number. No one else ever has this number, so that helps too (when going to a new team).” One thing fans may be surprised to know about him: “I can play guitar.” Favorite thing about New Orleans: “The people.” Pregame ritual: “I keep the same routine every year. It changes every year, but I kept the same thing going each year.” First job: “Mowing lawns as a teenager.” Favorite athletes as a kid: “Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman, Andre Agassi.” What he’d be doing if he weren’t an NBA player: “I’d probably own my own business and be some type of business owner.” Closest friends currently playing on other NBA teams: “I’ve got so many friends all over, having played for a lot of teams. One guy I played with in college at UNLV, Joel Anthony of Miami, is a good buddy of mine.” Favorite type of music: “I like R&B and soul music.” Favorite TV shows: “I like the survival shows on the Discovery Channel. I just finished watching the whole season of Breaking Bad, which was really good. But I’m not a big TV guy.” Favorite movies of all time: “Top Gun is up there for me. Also Dumb & Dumber.” Favorite website: “YouTube.”
