Charlotte Hornets forward Noah Vonleh took part in the Marilyn G. Rabb Foundation’s active programming today by joining students at Vance High School in a Zumba Class to encourage them to live healthy active lifestyles.

“It’s really important to have an after-school activity to stay in shape, interact with other people and just have something to do and not just sit around,” said Vonleh. “I had seen some Zumba videos and had a feeling we’d be moving around but it was a pretty good class. I got a good sweat in. I feel like I lost a couple pounds and it was good getting out there and exercising with everybody.”

The Charlotte Hornets and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina continue their partnership in support of Marilyn G. Rabb Foundation’s youth empowerment mission, a direct-service nonprofit committed to overcoming social and economic barriers and creating innovative programs that positively impact youth.

“These types of programs really help to instill our mission and carry our mission in the communities that we work in,” Charlotte Director for MGR Youth Empowerment Bridgette Williams said.

The Marilyn G. Rabb Foundation Youth Empowerment engages, motivates, and empowers under-resourced youth to create positive community change both locally and throughout the United States. MGR designs and implements programming in health, the environment, and the arts and currently has locations in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Minneapolis and Las Vegas.

“This relationship with the Hornets as been a truly awesome relationship for us because many of our students that live in our communities where there is a professional team never get to see [them],” said Williams. “To see the players and the Honey Bees come out and take the time to work out with them, to have a conversation with them, laugh with them and joke with them means a lot. [Programs] like this serve as an incentive [to our students] to continue to say ‘These are the types of things I can get as long as I continue to make the right choices and right decisions.”
