The Charlotte Bobcats, Family Dollar and Wells Fargo today announced that the three organizations will partner together for the Military Care Event on March 25 at Time Warner Cable Arena. This is a unique community initiative in which members of each organization will prepare, package and donate over 10,000 care kits to military troops overseas. As part of this community impact program with the Bobcats, The Wells Fargo Foundation will also present two local military and veterans organizations with grants to support their work in the Carolinas.

“We are excited to create this unique event that benefits U.S. Military service men and women around the world and here in the Carolinas,” said Bobcats Sports & Entertainment President & COO Fred Whitfield. “The Bobcats are thrilled to be joining two community-focused corporate partners in Wells Fargo and Family Dollar to participate in this initiative. Our troops sacrifice so much for us to enjoy our freedom and this is a small way that we can show our appreciation for everything that they do.”

The entire Bobcats team and coaching staff will be joining more than 400 volunteers from Wells Fargo and Family Dollar to unload, pack and ship over 140,000 items to military troops serving all over the world. The packing of the items, which will include all the players and coaches, will take place on the arena floor at Time Warner Cable Arena from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on March 25. Along with personalized notes from players, executives and fans, these care kits include powdered Gatorade packets, toothbrushes, aspirin, soap and deodorant among other items. All products were donated courtesy of Family Dollar and their supplier partners Unilever, Colgate-Palmolive, Proctor & Gamble, Blistex, Henkel, Conair, AEP Industries and Energizer. In total, 140,000 items will be included in the 10,000 care kits and, once packaged, they will be shipped to Operation Gratitude in California via Paxton, the Bobcats official moving partner. Operation Gratitude will then ship the care kits to U.S. troops in Afghanistan and the Middle East, as well as ships in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean.

“Family Dollar is proud to partner with the Charlotte Bobcats on such a meaningful cause,” said Family Dollar’s Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer Jason Reiser. “Our U.S. Military service men and women do so much to protect our freedom and we’re thrilled to show our support through this event. We also want to recognize our great supplier partners and their generous donations which have made this event possible.”

“It is an honor for us to partner with the Bobcats and Family Dollar to prepare packages for veterans who bravely serve our country,” said Kendall, Alley, Community Banking regional president for Wells Fargo in Charlotte. “This connects directly with the vision and values of our company. Wells Fargo takes great pride in giving back to these heroes who are defending our nation.”
