Charlotte’s struggles heading into the All-Star break continued on Feb. 13 at Spectrum Center as the Hornets dropped their third-straight contest 105-99 to the Philadelphia 76ers. Kemba Walker scored a game-high 29 points and Frank Kaminsky recorded his second double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) but it wasn’t enough to keep the Hornets from their 10th loss in the last 11 contests.

Turning Point

Despite falling behind 17-5 early in the first quarter, Charlotte rallied back to take a 63-59 lead on Frank Kaminsky’s and-one at the 6:54 mark of the third. However, instead of riding the momentum of the 7-2 run that got the Hornets their largest lead of the game, the tide quickly turned to the 76ers side over the course of the next three minutes of game action. Charlotte missed all six of its free-throw attempts over that stretch while Philadelphia connected on 4-of-7 shots in that same span while rattling off a 10-0 run to turn a four-point deficit into a six-point lead, 69-63, and the Hornets would never re-take the lead.

Hornets Player of the Game

Kemba Walker scored a game-high 29 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field as he tallied his 36th game with 20-plus points this season. Walker added seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in the losing effort.

76ers Player of the Game

Dario Saric had team highs in both points (18) and rebounds (11) off the bench for Philadelphia, recording his fifth double-double of the season. He also had three assists and a blocked shot in 31 minutes as a reserve.

Game Notes

Frank Kaminsky swatted a career-high-tying three blocks while recording his second double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) of the season. It was Kaminsky’s second double-double in the last four games… Jeremy Lamb led Charlotte off the bench with 12 points on 2-of-3 shooting from three-point range… Brian Roberts tied a season-high with eight points tonight (two other times)… The Hornets turned 19 Sixers turnovers into 25 points… Philadelphia outrebounded Charlotte 51-33… The Sixers outscored Charlotte 56-32 in the paint and 11-3 in second chance points… Philadelphia is now 14-10 since 12/30/16 after starting the season 7-24… The win for the 76ers marks their first season series win against the Hornets since 2012-13.

Quote of the Night

“We can’t drop our head, we can’t stop believing, we can’t quit. We’re two games from the eight spot [in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt]. We’re not 15 games behind. We’re right there. We’re right there and we know we have a good team, so we all got to do is keep believing, keep practicing and ask the fans who are mad right now, I understand why, mad at me, why you’re mad at the whole team, because this city deserves a good basketball team and we’re going to get right there because we have good coaching staff, the right players, telling myself, we got to do a better job.” - Nicolas Batum
