Bob Pettit, like nearly everyone else in the league, sporting the Converse All-Stars in 1955.
'Pistol' Pete Maravich was one of the first professional basketball players to land a shoe deal... with Keds.
Maravich had red versions of his Keds too, shown here in 1973.
Pete's likeness was used to promote the Keds shoe that he wore on the court.
Chuck Taylors were still kicking in 1973.
Nike made its move into the basketball shoe market in 1972, and the Hawks' Eddie Johnson was an early adapter.
Moses Malone had a deal with Nike that included television commercials...
... and promotional posters.

Wilkins wore Converse during his first year in the league, joining top stars like Larry Bird, Dr. J, and Magic Johnson.
'Nique quickly caught the eye of other brands, and soon landed a deal with Brooks.
Dominique rocked the "Unique" for most of the late-80's.
Wilkins struck a deal with Reebok and wore the original Reebok Pump.
Although they never came out with a shoe named after Nique in his playing days, Reebok had a limited release of a model honoring Wilkins as part of the Pump's 20th anniversary collection.
Similar to Wilkins, Doc Rivers began his career wearing converse.
Doc eventually switched over to Reebok, and appeared in a commercial for the Pump.
Kevin Willis struck a deal with Avia early in his career.
Willis' use of Avia's shoes only lasted a portion of his two decades in the league...
... and he was wearing Nike for much of his career.
Mutombo and Adidas took a risk with their colorful design in the early-90's.
Later in his career Mutombo made the switch to Nike.
