Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph announced today a $20,000 contribution to MIFA (Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association) to help Memphians battle the dangerously cold temperatures that have descended up the city.

Randolph’s donation will go directly to the MIFA Emergency Services Plus-1 program.  Plus-1 is a program administered by MIFA to pay utility services for people in need.

“Zach’s interest in supporting families in need in our community aligns with MIFA’s mission to support this vulnerable population. We are delighted to strengthen our partnership with him and the Grizzlies organization with this ongoing financial support,” said Executive Director of MIFA Sally Jones Heinz. “Plus-1 is a lifesaver for many and his contribution is critical and greatly appreciated.”

This is the sixth-consecutive year that Randolph has partnered with MIFA and MLGW to help the most vulnerable families survive the cold. His donation will be used to cover the cost of utility payments for more than 100 households on the verge of service disruption in the Memphis-area.

“I know what it feels like to be part of a family struggling to make ends meet and I want to help - particularly single mothers doing their best to raise children alone,” said Randolph. “I’m so blessed and there’s always something that can be done, and today that means keeping the heat on.”

Founded in 1968, MIFA (Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association) is a unique organization designed to support the independence of vulnerable seniors and families in crisis through high-impact programs. Through thousands of volunteers and donors, like Randolph, MIFA unites the community through service.
