Memphis, Tenn. – The Memphis Grizzlies and the Soulsville Foundation announced today that Staxtacular 2013, presented by SunTrust, to benefit the Stax Music Academy, will take place at the Stax Museum (926. E. McLemore Ave. Memphis 38106) on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 7 p.m. until the lights go out. The ninth annual soul-shaking event is the largest fund-raiser of the year for Soulsville and takes place during the year of the Stax Museum’s 10th Anniversary.
Memphis Grizzlies’ Tony Allen, Mike Conley, Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph are this year’s hosts and will be joined by all members of the team and coaching staff for the Jan. 26 event. Since its inception in 2005, Staxtacular has continued to grow and has risen over $800,000 for the Stax Music Academy.
Guests will be treated to a ‘World Tour’ buffet, featuring sushi to sliders to Southern cuisine, an open bar with special Bourbon tastings and awe-inspiring desserts. Complimentary valet parking, live and silent auctions, and a 7:30 p.m. performance by the world-famous Stax Music Academy tipping-off a night of dancing and live music by the Bo-Keys with Percy Wiggins are among the event highlights.

The Stax Music Academy is a unique learning center that inspires young people and enhances their academic, cognitive, performance, and leadership skills by utilizing music with a strong focus on the rich legacy and tradition of Stax Records. Since its founding in 2000, it has served more than 3,000 young people, many of them at risk. Students have performed at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Smithsonian Folklife Festival and many other venues, including performances in Italy, Australia, and Germany. Since 2008, every high school student enrolled in the Stax Music Academy has gone to college.
