Grizzlies surge past Suns, 110-91

The Memphis Grizzlies won for the sixth time in seven games as they defeated the Phoenix Suns, 110-91, Wednesday at FedExForum. Memphis extended its overall winning streak to three games and now leads the season series 2-0.

The Grizzlies have now won 10 of their last 13 meetings against Phoenix in Memphis and 18 of the last 26 overall.

Memphis held a steady lead throughout most of the game, but the Suns moved within striking distance twice in the third quarter. After pulling within five with 9:23 remaining, the Grizzlies responded with a 9-1 run to extend the lead to 13.

A 12-1 Phoenix run brought the lead to seven with 1:22 remaining in the third quarter, but the Grizzlies responded with a 7-0 run of their own to close the period with a 14-point lead.

For the second straight game, the Grizzlies defense held their opponent to 15 points or more below their scoring average. Over the previous two games, Grizzlies opponents are shooting just 34.9 percent (59-169 FG).

The Grizzlies also held significant advantages in field goal percentage (48.6-33.3) and three-point percentage (58.3-21.7). The discrepancy was especially prevalent among the teams’ starting units. Memphis starters shot 24-of-44 (.545) from the field while Phoenix starters shot just 13-of-43 (.302).

Memphis held Phoenix without a second half assist until the 9:35 mark of the fourth quarter.

Mike Conley led the Grizzlies with 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting (4-5 3P). In two games against Phoenix this season, Conley is averaging 30.5 points while shooting 19-of-28 (.679) from the field and 11-of-15 (.733) from the three-point line. Marc Gasol added in 19 points to go with seven rebounds.

JaMychal Green (11 points, 10 rebounds) recorded his seventh double-double of the season. Troy Daniels (14 points), Toney Douglas (11 points), and Tony Allen (10 points) also scored in double figures.

Devin Booker led the Suns with 20 points. Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight also chipped in 16 points apiece.
