The Grizzlies improve to a franchise best 13-2 start and end a two-game losing streak on the road with a 99-93 victory over the Lakers in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Marc Gasol led the Grizzlies with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Mike Conley finished with 19 points and 7 rebounds.
Kobe Bryant scored 22 points for the Lakers, who have lost seven of nine.
The Grizzlies had a sluggish start, shooting just 7-of-22 (32%) in the first quarter but shooting improved to nearly 50% to finish out out the first half.
Memphis came alive in the third quarter to dominate the Lakers 16-6 in the paint and hold a 10-4 advantage over the Lakers on the glass. Marc Gasol scored 12 points as the Grizzlies led the Lakers 34-23 at the end of the quarter.
The Grizzlies defense held Kobe Bryant to just 4 points. The Lakers offense broke down the stretch, capped by a turnover by Bryant with 16 seconds left in the game. A free throw make by Mike Conley, three point miss by Bryant and a rebound by Quincy Pondexter brought the game to a close.
The Grizzlies are now 9-0 against Western Conference opponents.
The Grizzlies road trip continues on Friday as the team faces the Portland Trail Blazers.
