Memphis, July 12, 2012— The Memphis Grizzlies will be holding auditions for the 2012-13 Entertainment Teams on Saturday, July 28 at the Mallory Gymnasium on the campus of Rhodes College. The Grizzlies Junior Dance Team will hold their registration at 8 a.m. followed by the audition, which will take place from 9 a.m. – Noon. The Grizzlies Grannies & Grandpas performance team will follow, with registration taking place at Noon followed by the audition from 1 – 3 p.m. Before the best entertainers throughout the Mid-South assemble for the audition, the Grizzlies are offering prospective team members the chance to participate in pre-audition clinics and classes that will give them a leg up on the competition.
There are two clinics, one for each of the entertainment teams, which will offer prospective team members the opportunity to learn the routine’s choreography that will be used at the audition from Entertainment Coordinator Terran Gary. The Junior Dancers pre-audition clinic will take place on Friday, July 27 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. and the clinic for the Grannies & Grandpas will be held from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. that same night. Leading up to the pre-audition clinics, Gary will also hold dance classes that will teach participants basic techniques and performance tips in advance of the auditions. The classes for the Junior Minis (ages 7-9) take place every Saturday from Noon – 1 p.m. while the Junior Dancers (ages 9-12) classes are held on Saturdays from 3 – 4 p.m. Classes for the Grannies & Grandpas will take place from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. every Friday. “The pre-audition clinics and classes allow prospective team members a chance to see what it takes to be a member of our entertainment teams,” said Gary. “Through our clinics, classes and auditions, we think that we’ll be able to put together the most entertaining and talented dance teams in the entire NBA.”
While participation in the pre-audition clinics and classes is encouraged, all qualified performers are invited to participate in the auditions on July 28 at Rhodes College (2000 N. Parkway). To be eligible for the Junior Dance Team, participants must be between the ages of 7-9 for the Junior Minis and ages 9-12 for the Junior Dancers.
