Grizzlies to Host Elvis Night on January 8 vs. the L.A. Lakers

MEMPHIS, December 28, 2007 - – January 8 will mark the anniversary of the birth of Elvis Presley, and the Memphis Grizzlies are celebrating the occasion with Elvis Night when they host the Los Angeles Lakers on the 8th.

“Elvis Presley Enterprises is looking forward to another exciting event celebrating Elvis’ birthday. There’s no better way to celebrate than with an Elvis-themed Grizzlies game. The Grizzlies know how to throw a party and fans will experience a great game in an Elvis atmosphere,” said Paul Jankowski, Chief Marketing Officer of EPE. “As much as Elvis loved Memphis and sports, he’d be sitting courtside and proud to be honored on his birthday.”

“When you think of Memphis, one of the first things that come to mind is Elvis Presley. He’s more than a legend, he’s a global icon,” said Memphis Grizzlies President of Business Operations Andy Dolich. “We’re proud to partner with Elvis Presley Enterprises in celebrating the birth of the most famous entertainer in history.”

The festivities will start before fans even enter the building, as Elvis’ 68 Special will be playing on the outdoor LCD board, and fans will be able to take part in a meet and greet session with The 2007 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest winner, Shawn Klush.

When Grizzlies and Elvis fans enter FedExForum, they will be treated to Elvis songs during the pre-game warm-ups and during the introduction of the starting lineups, which will be read by Klush in character as Elvis.

Once the game starts, Elvis music and trivia will be incorporated into virtually all of the team’s promotions and events during the game, such as performances by the Grizzlies Dance Team, the Mazola Moves Dance Hall of Fame, Commercial Appeal Remember When… and other in-game elements. Furthermore, Klush will be performing as Elvis at halftime with the Grizzlies Dance Team.

Tickets for the game start at just $5, and can be purchased at the FedExForum box office, online, at all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling 901.888.HOOP.
