The NBA today announced Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach Dave Joerger as the Western Conference Coach of the Month for October/November 2014. This marks the third career Coach of the Month honor for Coach Joerger since he began his NBA head coaching career with the Grizzlies at the start of the 2013-14 season.
Joerger, previously honored as the Western Conference Coach of the Month for January 2014 and April 2014, led Memphis to the best record in the NBA to start the season (15-2), including an unblemished mark against Western Conference opponents (11-0). The Grizzlies are the first Western Conference team to start a season 15-2 since the 2010-11 San Antonio Spurs, and their 11 consecutive wins over Western Conference opponents is tied for the second-longest winning streak by a West team against conference foes to start a season in the last 20 seasons.
After Memphis won its two October games – recording its first opening-night victory since the 2000-01 season – the Grizzlies won 13 of 15 games in the month of November, tying the franchise record for wins in a calendar month (March 2004, April 2012).
The Grizzlies also won all eight of their home games to start the season, extending their regular season home winning streak to 22 games dating back to Feb. 11, 2014, the longest by an NBA team since the Denver Nuggets won 23 straight from Jan. 20-April 17, 2013.
Memphis has held opponents to the lowest scoring average in the league (92.4 points) and ranks third in points in the paint (47.1) and fourth in steals (8.3). The Grizzlies place ninth in assists (21.9), ranking inside the NBA top 10 in the category for the first time since the 2003-04 season, and shoot .361 from three-point range, their highest percentage since the 2006-07 season.
