Lionel Hollins to host Bowling for Backpacks event

MEMPHIS, July 26, 2012 – Grizzlies Head Coach Lionel Hollins is inviting all Mid-South basketball and bowling fans to join him for the Lionel Hollins Bowling for Backpacks event on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Winchester Bowl (3703 South Mendenhall Road).

Registration for the event, which benefits Lionel Hollins Charities, is $75 for individuals or $300 for a team of four. Participants will receive a free T-shirt, enjoy free food and soda and have a chance to win great prizes, including tickets to a Grizzlies game, trophies, door prizes and autographed Grizzlies merchandise.

Attendees also will have the opportunity to bowl with Coach Hollins, Grizzlies players and local celebrities at an event where proceeds will go toward providing backpacks and school supplies for Mid-South youth in need.

In addition to bowling, the event also features a Health Fair – presented by the Shelby County Health Department, UT Health Science Center, Dental Connections and Wal-Mart – which includes free health screenings, dental cleanings, eye screenings and back-to-school immunizations.

Another feature is the Second Annual Wine, Jazz, SWAG & Celebrities pre-event fundraiser on Friday, Aug. 17 from 7-10 p.m. at the Crescent Club (6075 Poplar Ave., 9th Floor). Featuring legendary jazz artist Rachelle Ferrell, proceeds will benefit Bowling for Backpacks.

Coach Hollins started the Lionel Hollins Bowling for Backpacks event in 2003 and has provided nearly 6,000 backpacks since its inception.
