CLEVELAND – Cleveland Cavaliers Head Coach Tyronn Lue has been named the NBA Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for games played in October and November, the NBA announced today. This marks the first time Lue has earned Coach of the Month accolades and the 14th time in franchise history a coach has won the honor.

Lue led the Cavaliers to the best record in the East during October and November at 13-3 (.813). During that span, the Cavs averaged an Eastern Conference-best 111.3 points and surrendered 103.8 points, en route to posting the best differential in the conference at +7.5 points per game. Cleveland also led the East in three-pointers made (221) and three-point percentage (.390), while ranking fifth in field goal percentage (.451) and fifth in assists per game (22.9). The Cavs scored at least 100 points in 14 of 16 games, including all 10 games at Quicken Loans Arena where they went 9-1 and averaged 117.4 points last month. The Cavs had back-to-back games with 128 points or more on two occasions (Nov. 1-3 and Nov. 23-25), a feat that had never been accomplished prior to this season, and topped 20 assists 11 times, including three games with 30 or more assists.

Cleveland had a historical month from three-point range, connecting on 10 or more three-pointers in all 16 games, which is an NBA record for consecutive games with at least 10 threes to open a season. They also became the first team in NBA history to have back-to-back games with 20 or more three-pointers, after knocking down a franchise regular season record 21 triples against Portland on Nov. 23 and 20 triples against Dallas on Nov. 25. The Cavs knocked down 61 more three-pointers than their opponents last month (221-160).

Lue guided the Cavaliers to having the third-best offensive rating in the NBA at 110.8. Defensively, the Cavs held opponents to under 100 points on seven occasions (7-0) and under .430 shooting four times (4-0). Cleveland also won by at least 10 points on five occasions and posted a 7-1 record against teams with a winning percentage above .500.

Golden State’s Steve Kerr earned the honor in the Western Conference.

Coach Lue Named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month

CLEVELAND – Cleveland Cavaliers Head Coach David Blatt has been named the NBA Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for games played in October and November, the NBA announced today. This marks the second time Blatt has earned Coach of the Month accolades (March 2015) as he becomes the fourth coach in Cavaliers history to win the award more than once, joining Lenny Wilkens (three times), Mike Fratello (two times) and Mike Brown (five times). It also marks the 13th time in franchise history a coach has won the honor.

Blatt led the Cavaliers to the best record in the East during October/November at 13-4 (.765). During that span, the Cavs averaged an Eastern Conference-best 103.1 points and surrendered just 96.5 points, en route to posting the best differential in the conference at +6.6 points per game. Cleveland also led the East in field goal percentage (.461) and three-pointers per game (10.2), while ranking second in defensive rebounds per game (35.9), third in assists per game (24.1) and fourth in total rebounds per game (46.5). Cleveland went a perfect 9-0 at Quicken Loans Arena, where it has now won 29 of its last 30 regular season games dating back to January 19, 2015.

The Cavaliers connected on a conference-best 52 more three-pointers than the opponent in October and November (174-122), while dishing out at least 20 assists in 15 of the 17 games, including nine games with 25 or more assists. The Wine and Gold topped 100 points on 10 occasions and 115 or more three times. Eight players averaged at least 7.0 points per game. Defensively, the Cavs held the opponents to under 100 points nine times, including four games under 90 points, and went 6-2 against .500+ teams. Cleveland also won five games after facing double-digit deficits and outrebounded their opponent in 15 of 17 games for the second-best rebound differential in the NBA (+5.8).

Blatt is the first coach in Cavaliers history to win the award within the first month of a season. Golden State’s Luke Walton earned the honor in the Western Conference.

David Blatt Named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month

CLEVELAND – Cleveland Cavaliers Head Coach David Blatt has been named the NBA Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for March, the NBA announced today. Blatt led the Cavaliers to an Eastern Conference-best 11-4 record during the month, joining George Karl (February 1985), Lenny Wilkens (April 1988, December 1988 &amp; February 1993), Mike Fratello (December 1994 and December 1995) and Mike Brown (January 2008, December 2008, February 2009, March 2009 &amp; December 2009) as coaches in Cavaliers history to receive the monthly accolade since the NBA began giving out the award in 1982-83.

During the month of March, the Cavs led the Eastern Conference in points per game (107.0), points per game differential (9.1), field goal percentage (.469), three-point field goal percentage (.399) and three-pointers made per game (12.3). Cleveland also set a franchise record for three-pointers made in a single month with 184, while also setting a team record with nine straight road games of at least 10 triples from March 1-25.  The Cavs were a perfect 5-0 at home and were tied for the most road wins in the East at 6-4.

The month also saw the Cavs extend their winning streak at Quicken Loans Arena to 16 games (Jan. 19 – March 29), which is tied for the third-longest home streak in franchise history. Five players averaged double figures in scoring during the month as the Cavs won by double figures in seven of the 15 games, including four games by at least 20 points and two by 30 or more. Cleveland also clinched a playoff berth with their win over Indiana on March 20.

Since January 15, Cleveland owns the NBA’s best overall record (29-7), while also ranking first in three-pointers made per game (11.6), second in points per game differential (+10.4), third in field goal percentage (.470), third in points per game (107.2), fourth in three-point percentage (.381), fifth in opponent three-point percentage (.326) and seventh in opponent points per game (96.8) over that stretch. On the season, the Cavs lead the Central Division with a 48-27 mark.

Golden State Head Coach Steve Kerr earned the honor in the Western Conference.
