NBA.com/Stats Unveils Groundbreaking Video Box Scores

NEW YORK – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced NBA.com/Stats - the official NBA statistical destination powered by the SAP HANA® real-time platform - has unveiled groundbreaking video box scores. The new feature, which links video to statistics in the box score, makes the NBA the first major U.S. professional sports league to provide all fans with access to video box scores.

Along with the innovative video box scores, NBA.com/Stats has launched video within team and player pages, shooting charts, play-by-play section, and other statistics. The new video integration, which further demonstrates SAP’s powerful analytics capabilities, will include the current NBA season and the entire 2012-13 season.

Video will be added to NBA.com/Stats shortly after the conclusion of each game. Key video integration includes:

  • Video Box Scores: Fans will now have the unique opportunity to view plays associated with the specific statistic identified in the box score including field goals made/attempted, assists, rebounds, steals, blocks, free-throws, and more.
  • Team and Player Pages: Fans will be able to see video associated with team or individual player statistics.
  • Shooting Charts: Comprehensive shooting charts for offensive and defensive performance, “hot spots” and more will now feature video for fans to access.
  • Play-by-Play: Fans will be able to access video for every play, connected to the play description and the time it occurred, in the play-by-play section.

NBA.com/Stats was unveiled in February 2013 and provides fans with access to the league’s entire official statistics history – more than 4.5 quadrillion combinations of statistics – previously only available to league and team personnel.

NBA.com/Stats is accessible via mobile devices, and content from the site can be easily shared with others via social networks (Twitter, Facebook, and Google+).

In July 2012, the NBA and SAP announced a new multiyear marketing partnership that made SAP the Official Business Analytics Software Partner of the NBA. The SAP partnership includes the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and the NBA Development League (NBA D-League).
