Wine and Gold with a Hint of Green

The Wine and Gold strive to ‘go green’ year-round and will highlight those efforts when the team hosts their sixth annual Cleveland Cavaliers Green Week, presented by Republic Services. As part of the 2015 NBA Green Week, Cavs Green Week runs now through Sunday, March 29th, culminating with the game against Philadelphia.

There will be many ways fans can get in on the eco-friendly action at Sunday’s game:

  • Walk the concourse - stop by and visit the representatives from local green organizations that will be highlighting their sustainability efforts
  • Reduce, reuse, recycle your Sword Magazine and Tip-Off Tonight program – there will be fewer copies printed to conserve paper, and additional recycling receptacles located throughout the arena
  • Take part in the 50/50 in-game raffle - the proceeds from which will benefit the Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity
  • Keep an eye on Humongotron – there will be eco-friendly tips, courtesy of Republic Services, shown throughout the game
  • Grab a bite and a drink – In addition to their use of recyclable cups, plates, and plastic products all season long, Aramark - Quicken Loans Arena’s food and beverage service - will be highlighting locally sourced food in concession stands, suites, and banquet spaces throughout the arena. Aramark will also be donating a portion of the proceeds from the sales of reusable souvenir soda cups to Lake Ridge Academy’s Green Society, an environmental club that serves to improve awareness of environmental issues and promote green initiatives.
  • See how being green has rewards: The Cavs and Republic Services held an online month-long Green Week Sustainability Essay Contest, asking fans why sustainability is important to them and what they are doing to live a more green life. The winner will be selected this week, receive tickets to Sunday’s Green Week game, be recognized during the game, and receive a prize from the Cavs and Republic Services.

Fans will be able to engage with the team all throughout Green Week by following along on the team’s social networks, via @cavs on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The Cavs will be posting daily green tips and holding contests throughout the week, including giving fans the chance to win tickets to Sunday’s Green Week game against the Sixers.

Leading up to Sunday’s Green Week Game, the Cavs will be keeping busy this week by working with the Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity. Volunteers from the team will help to construct a green-certified home in East Cleveland, as well as help prepare for the grand opening of the new ReStore location. Habitat’s ReStore is a building materials resale store that recycles and sells donated appliances, furniture, tools and home improvement items to the community at discounted prices.
