Cavs Host Colon Cancer Awareness Night

The Cleveland Cavaliers will host Colon Cancer Awareness Night on Friday, April 10th, during their game against the Boston Celtics. The team is partnering with Cleveland Clinic and Fight Colorectal Cancer to help promote education and early detection.

According to Fight Colorectal Cancer, 1 in 20 men and women will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their lifetime – with an estimated 137,000 people being diagnosed with the disease this year. While colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer-related cause of death annually – among both men and women – Fight Colorectal Cancer states that it is also one of the most treatable cancers with early detection.

Fans at Friday’s game will be able to learn about colon health, spread awareness and show their support of the cause through multiple channels:

  • Visit the Cleveland Clinic and Fight Colorectal Cancer tables on the concourse, which will be extra visible as they will be lit in colon cancer awareness blue
  • Get creative and use the colon cancer awareness blue poster board at the sign making stations on the concourse
  • Make lots of noise during the game with the free “thunder sticks” provided by Fight Colorectal Cancer, which every fan will receive at their seat
  • Purchase the special edition, limited quantity colon cancer awareness blue Cavs t-shirt in the Team Shop, the proceeds from which will be donated to Fight Colorectal Cancer
  • Watch the in-game interview with Dr. Meagan Costedio, colorectal surgeon at Cleveland Clinic
  • Keep an eye out for the colon cancer awareness facts and PSAs on Humongotron throughout the game, provided by Cleveland Clinic and Fight Colorectal Cancer

Fans watching from home can also take part in the night by visiting cavs.com on Friday, which will turn colon cancer awareness blue for the occasion. The Cavs will also post awareness information throughout the evening on the team’s social media platforms, which can be followed at @cavs on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
