Cleveland, September 12-CALLING ALL KIDS! The Cleveland Cavaliers’ are pleased to introduce a different and exciting element to their in-game entertainment package: in its inaugural year, the Cavaliers Kids Dance Troupe, is an energetic team of talented dancers and performers ages 5-13. The kids' dance troupe will perform at six games throughout the regular season (one performance per month). The Workshop-Audition will be held Saturday, September 30th at 10:00 a.m. at Champion Cheer and Dance Company in Solon, OH.
The Workshop-Audition will run from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with registration beginning at 10:00 a.m. The workshop itself will begin with a performance from the Scream Team followed by a group warm up. Throughout the workshop there will be two learning sessions (one hip hop combination and one break dance routine), a performance for the parents/legal guardians of the skills learned, an individual freestyle dance opportunity, and a question and answer session for the children and parents with the coaches.
Those chosen from the Workshop-Audition to be part of the Cavaliers Kids Dance Troupe will receive a phone call after the workshop with their welcome and congratulations! The coaches are looking for energy, showmanship, personality, crowd appeal, ability to execute choreographed dance routines, and individual talent.
Requirements for the Workshop-Audition include a $10 registration fee and a non-returnable photograph. Parent or Legal Guardian must be present to register their child. Children should look performance ready wearing comfortable athletic clothes with sneakers. They are strongly encouraged to bring water and a small snack for breaks throughout the day.
The Cavaliers Kids Dance Troupe will be run professionally to teach children the responsibility of being part of a team, as well as provide a channel for Cleveland’s, youth to display their talent and creativity. As members of the dance troupe, children will not only learn choreographed dances, but also train to explore their performance skills and gain a strong sense of self-worth while learning the importance of teamwork. Most of all, the kids will be encouraged to have fun doing what they love: dancing!
Workshops and rehearsals for the dance troupe will begin in October and run through the season (including playoffs if necessary). All practices will be held on the weekends at a Champion Cheer and Dance Company in the Cleveland area. Dancers will be expected to be at every practice to be eligible to perform at a game. Dancers will also be expected to practice their dances on their own time and music for each routine will be provided by the coaches.
Each dancer will be responsible for paying a maintenance fee (exact amount TBD) to the Cleveland Cavaliers at the first team meeting for all the dancers’ costumes, rehearsal time and ticket costs (they will receive two tickets to each game they perform in). Dancers will be responsible for providing their own dance shoes, tights, hair accessories, and dance make-up which may require additional expenses throughout the year.
