GameDay Preview: Game 3 vs. Golden State Warriors

Game Summary

Coming off of their thrilling victory in Game 2 to even the series, the Cavaliers return to Quicken Loans Arena looking to gain a 2-1 edge in Game 3 against the Golden State Warriors. Tipoff is at 9:00 p.m. ET.

The Cavaliers own the best home record in the NBA since Jan. 19 at 26-2 (.929), including a perfect 8-0 mark against the West. Over that 28-game stretch at The Q, Cleveland has outscored its foes by 12.1 points (106.0-93.9) and outshot them .465 to .415. The Cavs have denied opponents from scoring at least 100 points in 23 of the last 28 home games, while also shooting nearly .400 from the three-point line (325-814, .399).

The Cavs have won every single game this postseason when outrebounding or tying their opponent (13-0). Cleveland is averaging a +6.2 edge on the glass (47.3-41.1), which is tops in the 2015 NBA Playoffs. They have outrebounded the Warriors 50.0 to 46.5.

Overall, the Cavaliers are 13-3 in the playoffs and are giving up 93.6 points, which is the 2nd-lowest of all 16 playoff teams. Cleveland also has one of the top defensive field goal percentage among all teams in the playoffs at .413 (2nd overall), while allowing the lowest opponent three-point field goal percentage at .282. In the NBA Finals, the Cavs are holding the Warriors to just .290 (18-62) shooting from beyond the arc, while swiping 10.5 steals per contest.

For Golden State in Game 2, Klay Thompson scored a team-high 34 points while Stephen Curry had 19 points.

The Warriors set a franchise record with 28 road victories during the regular season and are 5-2 away from Oracle Arena in the playoffs.

During Game 2 against the Warriors, LeBron James registered his 13th career playoff triple-double (2nd-most all-time) with game highs in points (39), rebounds (16) and assists (11), becoming the first player in NBA playoff history to reach those totals. It was James’ 5th triple-double in his NBA Finals career, which only trails Magic Johnson (8) for the most all-time in the Finals.

Timofey Mozgov had another solid outing against the Warriors, tallying a playoff career-high 17 points on 5-8 (.625) shooting and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes in Game 2. In his last six postseason games, Mozgov is averaging 12.7 points on .563 shooting from the field, and 8.0 rebounds in 28.2 minutes.

Tristan Thompson has pulled down double-digit rebounds in nine of the last 11 games after a 14-board performance in Game 2 at Golden State. As a starter this postseason (last 11 games), he is averaging 12.0 rebounds, to go along with 9.4 points on .527 shooting from the field, and 1.5 blocks in 38.9 minutes.
