Cavs and Monsters Take to the Courses!

CLEVELAND, OH - August 23, 2011 - The 26th Annual Cavaliers Youth Fund Golf Classic, presented by Jani-King and in association with the Cleveland Clinic, was hosted for the first time at Firestone Country Club on Tuesday, August 23rd. With a day full of bogeys, birdies and outrageous argyle socks, this signature fundraising event will once again benefit the community as part of the Cavaliers Youth Fund.

The Cavaliers Youth Fund (CYF), a fund of the Cleveland Foundation, supports programs designed to benefit young people in the areas of education, recreation, employment and life skills with a particular emphasis on programs aimed toward at-risk youth. Since the fund’s inception, more than $22 million has been granted through CYF to local non-profit organizations.

More than 200 golfers participated in this year’s tournament, including celebrity golfers Cavs General Manager Chris Grant, Cavs Head Coach Byron Scott, Director of AHL Operations and Monsters Assistant Coach David Oliver, Monsters Head Coach David Quinn and Monsters players Greg Mauldin and Patrick Bordeleau, as well as Cavs Legends and former Cavs players Austin Carr, Campy Russell, Hot Rod Williams and many others.

“It’s been another extraordinary year at the Cavaliers Youth Fund Golf Classic!” said Nate Forbes, Cleveland Cavaliers Vice Chairman. “The Cavaliers Youth Fund is near and dear, not only to Dan Gilbert, but to all of us in the Cavaliers family. The money raised today goes a long way in helping to positively impact young people in our community who really need our help. We are very proud of what was accomplished today and very thankful for the great support from our community of partners and friends that make the Cavaliers family so special.”

Outback Steakhouse provided food on the courses for the golfers during the day. Following the tournament, a cocktail reception gave participants a chance to bid on sports memorabilia in a silent auction, which will also contribute to the Cavaliers Youth Fund.
