December Head of the Class and All-Star Kids Winners

Education is one of the pillars of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ community efforts and as part of that, the organization teams up with Chick-fil-A to honor exemplary teachers and students throughout Northeast Ohio. Each month during the season, the Cavs and Chick-fil-A select one teacher and one student to receive the team’s Head of the Class and All-Star Kids awards, respectively.

Head of the Class recognizes teachers in Northeast Ohio that make a difference in their students’ lives both inside and outside of the classroom. December’s winner, Alecia DeSilvester, is a 9th-12th grade Intervention Specialist at Lorain’s Summit Academy Secondary School. She spends extra time with struggling students and is quick to provide positive compliments. Ms. DeSilvester volunteers on many school beautification projects and helps run after-school activities. She also always acts in the students’ best interest.

Ms. DeSilvester was surprised at Summit with a visit from Cavs in-arena host Ahmaad and the team’s mascot, Moondog, who presented her with a $500.00 donation to use for her classroom, as well as lunch catered by Chick-fil-A for her class. She also received tickets to the December 19th game against Brooklyn, where she was honored on-court for her accomplishment.

All-Star Kids recognizes students who set a positive example for their peers. The winner for December, Kate Daley, is a fifth grader at St. Angela Merici. She takes on all responsibilities asked of her and has good organizational and study habits. Kate is involved in CYO sports and is always ready to help with Market Day. She volunteers as a study buddy for absent kids and helps students when they need special assistance getting around the school. Kate shows great participation in her Faith Family at school and is a great friend to everyone with a positive attitude every day.

Ahmaad and Moondog visited Kate’s class earlier this month to present her with tickets for her and her family to the December 21st game against Memphis. She and her class also received lunch catered by Chick-fil-A. Kate was honored at center court before the start of the game on the 21st.
