Matchup History
The Philadelphia 76ers and Washington Wizards have been going at it for years, long since before they were the Wizards or even in Washington, D.C. First, this Sixers opponent was known as the Chicago Zephyrs, who eventually changed their name to the Packers. Prior to the 1963-64 season, the Chicago Packers moved to Baltimore and renamed themselves the Bullets. Then the Baltimore Bullets moved to Washington and finally the Bullets transitioned to become the Wizards.
Regardless of their name, this team has a history with the Philadelphia 76ers that dates back to 1961, when the Sixers had a different name and home city, too – the Syracuse Nationals. Over 325 total regular season games played, the team from the City of Brotherly Love holds a strong advantage over the one in our nation’s capital with a 197-128 record. The 76ers hold the edge in the playoffs, too, with a 17-12 overall record, winning four of the six playoff series between the teams.
The Sixers won all four games against the Wizards during the 2023-24 season. In their second matchup of the season on December 6 in Washington, NBA MVP Joel Embiid dropped a 50 point performance, his first of that season.
The Sixers and Wizards matched up in three games during the 2024-25 season, defeating the Wizards 2-1.
The Philadelphia 76ers pulled off a thrilling 139–134 overtime win over the Washington Wizards on October 28, 2025, rallying from a 19-point deficit in the second half. With the win, the Sixers improved to 4-0 on the season, showcasing resilience early in the 2025-26 season. Their next game was on December 2, 2025, which the Sixers won 121–102.
