HEAT Social Responsibility: Sustainability

Kaseya Center sits at the edge of downtown Miami with Biscayne Bay as our backyard. That means we are ground zero for the effects of climate change. Understanding and mitigating those effects is an organizational priority, as is using our platform and reach to inform, educate, and inspire our fans/guests about the importance of sustainability.

Re-HEAT Program

Re-HEAT Program

The Re-HEAT program, in partnership with Levy Restaurants and the Kaseya Center, distributes unserved food from all HEAT home games and concerts to homeless shelters in the South Florida area. Beneficiary organizations include the Miami Rescue Mission, Chapman Partnership, Camillus House and Lotus House Women's Shelter. During all of our 2024-2025 events, we were able to donate about 10,712 pounds of unserved food, for an average of 122 pounds of food per game or concert. Through the assistance of supporting partner Levy Cares, to date over 93,000 pounds of food have been distributed to Re-HEAT beneficiaries.

HEAT Green Space Initiative

HEAT Green Space Initiative

Presented by Amerant Bank is an annual pro-conservation campaign and serves as the annual “Green Initiative” for the HEAT, leveraging the combined weight of the league, teams, players and partners to generate awareness and raise funds in support of environmental protection. This program, which involves staff from The HEAT Group and Amerant Bank, has grown to encompass all HEAT Group GREEN efforts in the community that revolve around generating awareness for the protection and sustainability of the environment.

How Low Can You Go Challenge

How Low Can You Go Challenge

In collaboration with Broward County Public Schools, the HEAT supports and incentivizes schools to take part in the How Low Can You Go Challenge, which challenges schools and empowers students to lower their carbon footprint by reducing energy, water and food waste. The program was the winner of an Innovation Award in 2023 by the Green Sports Alliance. 2025-26 marks the 13th season of the program and over the last 12 years, 355+ schools from Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach County have participated with anywhere from 60-120 schools registering annually. This program is a fun way to learn more about energy, water and food waste conservation while becoming mindful of how the choices we make impact our Earth. The program has also been recognized by the White House, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and National Geographic as an innovative community project to raise awareness of the effects of CO2 emissions on the environment and change behaviors.

Registration begins on October 6, 2025 for all schools across in the tri-county area. The winning school receives on-court recognition at a HEAT Game and a school pep rally with Miami HEAT talent.

Measures of success from the last 12 years:

  • Impact over 580,000+ individuals
  • Reduced over 18M kWh
  • Energy costs savings of $2,737,429
  • Reduced CO2 emissions by over 26M lbs.
  • Reduced water consumption by over 43M gallons

LEED Certification

LEED Certification

The Kaseya Center, which celebrated it's 25th anniversary year in 2025, understands that South Florida is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change—which is why sustainability has been an operational imperative for Kaseya Center and a pillar of social responsibility for the Miami HEAT for many years. In 2009, Kaseya Center was among the first existing sports venues in the country to achieve LEED Gold certification by the United States Green Building Council for its commitment to sustainability practices. Since then, the venue has twice been recertified LEED Gold: first in 2014 and again in 2021. The performance standards are utilized to operate the facility in an environmentally responsible way include maintenance measures, energy efficiency and conservation practices. Specifically, areas of focus include water conservation, recycling of office equipment and building materials, redistribution of unused food, composting, green cleaning supplies, and sustainable purchases among others.

LEED is the USGBC's leading rating system for designing and constructing the world's greenest, most energy-efficient, and high performing buildings.
