WASHINGTON, DC – The Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals teamed up to win a combined three Capital Emmy awards. Documentary series highlighting the 2011-12 seasons of the two teams, Caps Red Line and Wizards Magazine – The Journey, each won Emmys in the category of Best Sports Program/Series while Wizards Magazine won the Emmy in the category of Best Sports Editing.
The shows air on the teams’ broadcast partner, Comcast SportsNet, with episodes also available on the teams’ respective websites, WashingtonCaps.com and WashingtonWizards.com.
Wizards Magazine – The Journey was executive produced, written and directed by Jumoke Davis, shot and edited by Taylor Gilbert and co-edited by Alana Sawyer. Each episode for the season was narrated by a different member of the Wizards/Bullets Alumni Association. This marks the second-consecutive season that Wizards Magazine has won a Capital Emmy award in the category of editing.
Caps Red Line was produced by BASE Productions and the Capitals. Capitals vice president and chief marketing officer Joe Dupriest and Capitals director of game entertainment and TV production Michael Wurman oversee production of Caps Red Line. Chuck Roseberry served as supervising producer, with Timothy Libeau as editor, Todd Burger as videographer, Guerin Austin as host, Elliot Segal as on-camera talent and graphics provided by Rhett Blankenship. This marks the second-consecutive Emmy for Caps Red Line as the 2010-11 edition won a Capital Emmy award in the category of overall programming.
The Capital Emmy ceremony was held June 16, at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. The National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS-NCCB) is a nonprofit, professional organization serving the Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., television community. The Academy's EMMY® Award is the industry's benchmark for the recognition of television excellence.
