Canada will have to wait until next summer to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio, but the team was still playing for pride on Saturday against Mexico.
Andrew Wiggins had a big say in the third-place game, finishing with 18 points in Canada’s 87-86 win. Wiggins shot 5-of-11 on two-point shots, 2-of-4 from the three-point line and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. He also added two rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.
Fellow Canada and Timberwolves teammate Anthony Bennett played just one minute in the game and had an empty stat line.
In 10 games in the 2015 FIBA Americas, Wiggins averaged 15.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He shot 48.7 percent (38-of-78) on two-point shots, 51.7 percent (15-of-29) on threes and 68.2 percent (30-of-44) from the free-throw line.
In the same games, Bennett averaged 7.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists. He shot 64.7 percent (22-of-34) on two-point shots, 43.8 percent (7-of-16) on threes and 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the free throw line.
