Minneapolis/St. Paul – Top-ranked high school boys basketball teams from Minnesota and the Midwest will square off at the 20th annual Timberwolves Shootout, presented by Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine, on Saturday, Jan. 2 at Target Center. The 2016 Shootout includes some of the nation’s top college prospects including Gary Trent Jr. of Apple Valley and the Hurt brothers of Rochester John Marshall. 

The Shootout's first game at 9:15 a.m. features Champlin Park vs. Lincoln High School, (IA). After going 31-1 last season, Champlin Park began their 2015-16 season with six consecutive wins and return a pair of Rivals150 players in juniors McKinley Wright and Theo John. Wright is averaging 18 ppg and 7.8 rpg while John is averaging 17.8 ppg and 8.4 rpg. Seniors Tony Bonner, Kyle Crowl and TreVonte Jones, all of which are averaging double-digit efforts this season, lead Lincoln High School. Standout Bonner is averaging 22 ppg and 11 rpg.

Riverside High School (WI) vs. Rochester John Marshall will face off in the second game at 11 a.m. The matchup features brothers Michael and Matthew Hurt of Rochester John Marshall, who are averaging 16 ppg, 10 rpg, and 9 apg and 23 ppg, 11 rpg and three apg, respectively. Michael is a Golden Gopher-signed talent while Matthew is the top-ranked Minnesota freshman according to Northstar Hoops Report.  Riverside High School is led by junior Terrance Lewis who has received offers from Auburn, Ohio and Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Lewis leads Riverside in scoring with 24 ppg and rebounds with 11 rpg.

The third game of the day at 12:45 p.m. features West High (IA) vs. Maple Grove. Winning their first six-straight games of the season, five members of the Maple Grove Crimson are scoring in double figures this season, including Reed Nikko, Brad Davison, Tywhon Pickford, Taron Pickford and Jack Hutchison. West High boasts top-ranked junior prospect, Connor McCaffery, an Iowa commit, who is averaging 18 ppg. Following McCaffery is junior Devontae Lane, who is ranked third among Iowa juniors, averaging 11 ppg.

The final matchup of the shootout is top-ranked Lausanne Collegiate High School (TN) vs. Apple Valley at 2:30 p.m. Apple Valley returns its full roster this season from last year’s state championship run. The Eagles are led by junior Gary Trent Jr., who is averaging 32.6 ppg and eight rpg and sophomore Tre Jones (13 ppg, eight rpg). Jones is the brother of current Timberwolves guard, Tyus Jones while Trent is the son of former Minnesota Timberwolves forward, Gary Trent. The Lausanne Collegiate High School Lynx are led by 6-10 junior, Isaiah Stokes. Both a football and basketball standout, Stokes is the brother of Memphis Grizzlies forward Jarnell Stokes. 

Fans who have a ticket to watch the Timberwolves vs. Bucks game at 7 p.m. on Jan. 2, receive free admission to the Shootout. Otherwise, tickets to watch all four contests are available for $25 at the Target Center box office on the day of the Shootout. Entry to all games is a Timberwolves ticket to that evening’s game between Minnesota and Milwaukee.

Through the years, 30 future NBA players have participated in the Shootout, including Tyus Jones, Jrue Holiday, DeMarcus Cousins, Kevin Love and Josh Smith. In addition, more than 200 participants proceeded to play Division I college basketball.
