Wolves To Celebrate Think Green Month

FastBreak Foundation To Celebrate Think Green Month

The Minnesota Timberwolves FastBreak Foundation today announced plans to celebrate Think Green Month and help fans implement a more eco-friendly lifestyle. The FastBreak Foundation’s Think Green Month focuses on organizations and events that help to preserve and protect the environment and includes the awarding of two $5,000 grants and a Think Green Competition award winner. At each home game, the Timberwolves will honor organizations and individuals that help preserve and improve the environment and also air an in-game PSA that explains and promotes the importance of "Thinking Green." The Wolves will also participate in some elements of NBA Green Week that runs from April 4-12. The FastBreak Foundation is proud to be supported by the Roger and Nancy McCabe Foundation.

Think Green Grants
The FastBreak Foundation will award $5,000 grants to Memorial Blood Centers (April 1) and H2O for Life (April 5). Memorial Blood Centers is encouraging donors to give blood -- the ultimate renewable resource. Volunteers can Think Green throughout the month of April by stepping up and donating blood. As the ultimate renewable resource in the human body, the volume of fluid lost during blood donation adjusts within a few hours. Red blood cells are replaced within a few weeks, making it possible for donors to step up and donate whole blood as often as six times a year -- every 56 days!
H2O for Life provides a service-learning opportunity for schools nationwide and worldwide. The organization provides a service-learning opportunity for schools, youth groups, and faith-based organizations to raise awareness about the water crisis while taking action to provide funds for water, sanitation and hygiene education for a partner school in a developing country.
Think Green School Competition
As part of a statewide school competition, the FastBreak Foundation and WFTC My 29 recently asked schools to describe how they “Think Green.” From March 7-22, schools submitted their plan on how their school or classroom is making an effort to preserve and protect the environment. The winner will be selected based on school impact, environmental impact and originality. On April 9, the winning school will receive a surprise award presentation at their school from Timberwolves mascot Crunch. On April 13, the school will receive a $2,500 grant and a "Green Wolfie" trophy during the Wolves/Phoenix game.
NBA Green Week
NBA Green Week (April 4-12) is conducted in partnership with the Natural Resources Defense Council in an effort to generate awareness and funds for protecting the environment. Throughout NBA Green Week, adidas will outfit all players with 100 percent organic cotton NBA Green shooting shirts. Players will also wear NBA Green headbands and wristbands made from 45 percent organic cotton during games throughout the week to raise additional environmental awareness.
