Fans Gather Saturday Morning To Run With The Wolves

The fifth annual Run with the Wolves 5K was a great success this morning, with 400 participants running to benefit the Minnesota Timberwolves FastBreak Foundation.

The race began at 9:30 at the Lake Harriet band shell, preceded by a half-mile Kids’ Fun Run at 9:15. The weather was sunny and breezy, and runners loved the beautiful views of Lake Harriet.

“Oh, it was great — beautiful race. The lake is just amazing,” said Colorado native Amy Hughes, whose goal is to do a race in every state in the U.S.

“It’s the first time I’ve been in Minnesota,” Hughes said. “I’ve got lots of places to go. If I come back, it’ll be [in] awhile.”

Other participants were set on running in the event next year.
“You can’t beat a nice race course,” Kathy Fast said. “Next year, I’m bringing my boys!”

Another racer, Brett Dahlof, agreed.
“It was a great day for a run [and a] good organization to support," Dahlof said. "I had a good time trying to keep up with my sister.”

All participants received a commemorative race t-shirt as well as a free ticket to tonight's game against Oklahoma City, which they could choose to donate to the FastBreak Foundation’s Tickets for Kids program. Crunch and the Timberwolves Dancers were also present for the event, and a post-race celebration included games and lunch provided by Subway.

Run with the Wolves 2012 saw double the entrants from last year, when around 200 people participated in the run.
