The Minnesota Timberwolves took the second place Dallas Mavericks down to the wire, but let another slip away late in the fourth quarter to fall 108-105 at Target Center.

After an 8-0 run and two Michael Beasley free-throws, the Wolves gained a 97-96 lead with 2:15 remaining. From this point on, the veteran Mavericks leadership of Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, and Dirk Nowitzki showed exactly why they belong on top of this league.

Despite battling foul trouble the entire night, the All-NBA Nowitzki scored 17 of his game-high 25 points in the second half to lead Dallas. By picking up his fourth personal early in the third quarter, the Wolves used Nowitzki’s absence to their advantage by responding with a 15-0 run to build momentum heading into the final stanza after back-to-back three-pointers from Wayne Ellington and Jonny Flynn.

Once Nowitzki rejoined his team on the floor, Dallas immediately seized control with a 10-0 run of their own.
